For the Year Ahead
So this year, in 2017, instead of rushing into it, I decided to spend the first-week thinking and planning goals that I would like to set for myself. So if you would like to find out what my goals are for the year, keep on scrolling.
I started my blog in 2013, and every year since then, I felt like the key to being a successful blogger was about the quantity of content that I put out each week, so much so that one year, I tried to do a 365-day blogging challenge, as I thought that would be my key to blogging success. I only managed to create 99 posts, and out of those, there were probably only 5-10 posts worth reading, as half of my posts were simply me promoting my social media channels or writing to say that I couldn’t think of anything to write about but didn’t want to miss a day. I also had a few failed blogtober and blogmas challenges, but we won’t go there.
I have grown a lot since those days and cut down on the amount of content I put out. But I still feel like I need to cut more because although I was writing less, I still look back and feel like those posts were a little too basic. If you scroll back through my blog archives, you will sort of see why. Quite a few of my old posts went back into draft mode, as I wanted to be able to look back on them but didn’t want other people to have to see how badly I was a blogging.
So the aim for 2017 regarding my blog is to post one high-quality post every Sunday. I might occasionally post on Wednesday, like I did last week, but 99% of the time, new content will just be posted on Sunday due to the time it takes me to make one of these posts, time spent working on my YouTube channel each week, and all the daily stuff I have to fit in between.
I love Instagram, but I’m the worst at keeping up with it. There are times when I post every day or every other day, and other times, I don’t post for about three weeks.
So this year, I’m going to attempt to do the 365-day Instagram challenge. I already failed once because I forgot to post the second day. But I decided to restart again, and I’m currently on day six.
Ever since I started blogging, I’ve felt like I’ve never had a community, so this year, I’m going to work on getting to know other bloggers so I can build a community and get regular returning visitors.
It may seem like I get lots of visitors from the comments, but if it wasn’t for partaking in Facebook groups on a daily basis, I wouldn’t have any visitors. Although the people who comment are lovely, 90% of those people wouldn’t normally comment because I’m not in their niche (and I wouldn’t normally comment on their blogs because I’m not in their niche).
So, it would be great to find some people in my niche that I could connect with, and it would be even greater if they where in my age group as well.
I’ve been creating YouTube videos on and off since 2013, mainly because it’s a lot of work to think of video ideas, record, edit, and promote and also due to the fact that in the last few years, my internet connection has been crap and can sometimes take three days to upload a video.
But towards the end of last year, I created two new YouTube channels, one for sit-down and vlog-type videos and the other one for all things Sims. I haven’t fully developed schedules for them, but if I can hunt down fast internet, I’m aiming to post Sims videos Monday-Friday and sit-down or vlog-type videos two times per month.
But that probably won’t be fully functioning until February or March, as I want to have a bunch of videos pre-filmed, edited, uploaded, and ready to go.
I didn’t plan on all my goals being blog/YouTube related, but I feel like at this moment in my life, I need to focus on those two aspects. From time to time, I will do monthly goal posts, where I go into detail about blogging, YouTube, and life goals I want to complete that month, so don’t forget to look out for those.
I love hearing about other people’s goals, so let me know one of your goals for the year!
